Feature Story
Worcester State University Brings Wellness Home
By Victoriahope McAuliffe
The week of St. Patrick’s day most college students are
dreaming of blowing off steam by day-drinking, and dressing in crazy costumes.
But what if there was another way to manage stress that wouldn’t kill your
liver?
Before going green and gold, look around your campus.
Perhaps you hear the up-beat tempo of a zumba class, or see students dripping
in sweat while ferociously pushing themselves through a cycling class. What
other ways to manage stress and stay balanced surround you?
This year, immerse yourself in the world of health and
wellness at Worcester State University. Imagine the sounds of equipment humming
in the background, as a barista makes a mango smoothie as you enter the
Wellness Center to attend The Worcester State Wellness Expo.
“Our goal is to address all aspects of wellness,” said Jennifer
Quinn, Health Educator in The Office of Health Promotion at Worcester State. Miss
Quinn has planned the Wellness Expo for the past four years, and this year she
has collaborated with the newly opened Wellness Center on campus.
The Wellness Expo will be held on March 15, 2017 from 10
a.m. to 2 p.m. in the main Gymnasium at The Wellness Center on campus. Admission
to the expo is free for the Worcester State community.
Walking into the Wellness Center students can hear the lull
of voices coming from the gym, group workout classes are taking place, and the
atmosphere is electric. Once at the expos epicenter students have a variety of
activities they can engage in, including; stress management workshops, health
assessment, information tables, etc.
STRESS MANAGEMENT WORKSHOPS
Stress management workshops address the increasing issue of
chronic stress among college students across the country. During these
break-out sessions, students will have the opportunity to engage with members
of the Worcester State Counseling Center who will teach them healthy ways to
cope with stress in their lives.

Students often neglect their physical and emotional health,
at the Wellness Expo members of The Worcester State Nursing Club will be taking
blood pressure measurements, The OT Club with be doing strength assessments,
