How can I become a responsible/ethical media producer?

To become a responsible and ethical producer of media I will need to assess my own personal biases that exist in order to avoid them impacting the content, and quality, of the media I am producing. It is important that when conveying information to media consumers the producers of mass media must remember that what the public needs to know is factual, and not opinion based.
This same principle can be applied to the field of marketing and advertising, when creating media content that will be used to attract potential customers I will need to remember who my audience is and cater a marketing plan to their specific interests and demographics. I will conduct extensive market research in order to better understand the needs of the moderns consumer, resulting in positive financial outcomes for my company and their investors.
If an advertisement is created in a way that is either offensive, negligent, or inappropriate in relation to its target audience it will create a negative affect by pushing consumers away from the brand being represented. From a Public Relations standpoint, an advertisement campaign with questionable content can create buzz surrounding a brand thus resulting in free publicity, a positive outcome for any company. However, free press without the added value of increased consumer purchases does nothing for the company's bottom line. Media producers can avoid negative reactions to integrated marketing campaigns by creating content that uses relevant quantifiable data, such as demographics and consumer surveys, and following consumer trends.
It is my belief that to produce ethical and responsible media you have to be aware of what your audience is looking for, currently women are searching for females in fashion magazines who resemble the "average woman" instead of stick thin models parading unrealistic standards of beauty. The fashion industry is finally hearing women who have asked to see their bodies represented on the runways, and plus size models are now emerging in magazines for popular brands across the country. Having the ability to acknowledge the negative impact of a message on a group within society, and then taking steps to change it is the mark of an ethical and responsible media producer.
