Community Health Planning and Promotion Coursework

The Prevention Initiative

The purpose of this course assignment was to create a health initiative that could realistically be implemented within the community. My group was assigned vaccinations as a current health issue that needed to be addressed, and through direct research and analysis we created a plan that would build trust between the general public and the medical community. My role within the group was to take the raw and secondary data and create a written report that was accessible to potential investors of our health initiative. At the end of the project we pitched our health program to our class and professor as potential investors, in order to gain feedback on the effectiveness of our sales skills as well as credibility. This experience taught me how challenging it can be to work in a group, and how important it is that you learn to advocate for yourself as soon as possible. If you are delegated to do a particular job, yet find yourself carrying the entire group you have to speak up. It is not healthy to expect one person to fulfill the roles of 5, and it is impossible for them to continue to carry another's workload without burning out themselves.

Human Sexuality and Sex Education Coursework

Within the course of Human Sexuality and Sex Education, I studied the impact that effective sex education has on the youth of our society and how important it is to create comprehensive programs within American schools. The two projects I have included here outline the focus of analyzing data as it pertains to populations who have access to sex education, and accurate and scientifically supported information regarding birth control, sexually transmitted infections, and the average age that youth become sexually active. How can I become a responsible/ethical media producer? 

     To become a responsible and ethical producer of media I will need to assess my own personal biases that exist in order to avoid them impacting the content, and quality, of the media I am producing.
